Asunción, Agencia IP.- On Monday morning, the first work meeting took place with the participation of several state institutions of the Executive Branch, such as the National Secretary of Sports, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, the First Lady Office, and the Interior Ministry, among others.
At the meeting, participated Claudia Etcheverri, President of the Special Olympics of Latin America, which headquarters are in Panama; Luis Cáceres Brun, President of the Special Olympics of Paraguay; Víctor Pecci, General Director of the Olympics and Assessor of the SND; Larissa Shaerer, Adjunct Director and representative of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee. For Mitic, BA César Palacios, General Director of Strategic Communication, and about 30 representatives of government institutions participated.
The Ministry of Technologies of Information and Communication (MITIC) integrates the work table from which it will collaborate with the positioning and management of communication of the IV Latin American Special Olympics that will take place for the first time in Paraguay from October 4 to 13, 2024.
Facts about the Special Olympics
In the event, over 1,000 athletes from 20 countries of the region and invited will participate. They will compete in 14 sports disciplines during the ten days of competition, from October 4 to 13, 2024. The sports centres will be in the headquarters of the National Sports Secretary (SND), the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP) and the Aquatic National Center (CAN). Previously, this international event was developed in San Salvador (El Salvador) in 2006, San Juan (Puerto Rico) in 2010 and the city of Panama (Panama) in 2017.
«We are glad to host the IV Latin America Special Olympics in Asunción», said Victor Pecci, General Coordinator of the Special Olympics 2024. He also transmitted the commitment of the President of the Republic with this event, which will put Paraguay into the showcase of the world through sports. «It is a compromise from this Government, and a proof of this is the institution’s presence in this work table», he added.
The Latin American Special Olympics is a sports event that seeks to promote the inclusion and participation of people with intellectual disabilities. In the coming edition, Paraguay will be the host for the first time in history.
