Both parties have committed to reinitiate bilateral relations with the utmost respect to the fundamental principles of equality of rights, self-determination of peoples, non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, and solidarity; also based on the principles of Latin American integration and unity, says a statement issued by the National Chancellery.

Both governments manifested their interest in advancing in good connivance during this new phase of renewed relations. This allowed them to consolidate good relations between the states and preserve their countries’ natural friendship and solidarity.

In January 2019, Paraguay’s Government communicated the breaking of diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela after the assumption of Nicolás Maduro to a second term considered illegitimate by Paraguay.
