Paraguay and Argentina face challenges in regional integration and joint interest projects

Asunción, Agencia IP.- President Santiago Peña met this Wednesday with his counterpart from Argentina, Javier Milei, accompanied by Ministers from his cabinet. The meeting allowed them to discuss common challenges regarding regional integration and joint strategic projects, stated the Paraguayan President.

Peña highlighted bilateral relations with the neighboring country on his X account. «What unites us is putting the well-being of our peoples first.» He also emphasized the strong cultural and political bond between both countries.

«An excellent first bilateral meeting to review everything on the agenda, from Yacyretá, border crossings, commercial integration, Mercosur, free trade agreements between Mercosur and other regions of the world,» detailed the President.

This was the first official meeting between both Presidents. Before Milei’s assumption, Peña expressed his wishes for success for his government and assured his full support and cooperation.

The Paraguayan President was accompanied by Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez and the Ministers of Economy, Carlos Fernández, and Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez. Meanwhile, the Argentine President participated alongside his Head of Cabinet, Nicolás Posse, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo.

The agenda for this Tuesday’s meeting included negotiations for the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY), «and essential topics for our bilateral relations,» announced Presidential spokesperson Paula Carro.
