Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, held discussions with the King of Spain, Felipe de Borbón y Grecia, and his counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, during the opening day of the World Telecommunications Congress held in Barcelona.
There, the President presented the attractions of Paraguay for investment to authorities and representatives of major companies in the industry.
«We talked about the bilateral agenda, global challenges, and investment opportunities in Paraguay with His Majesty King Felipe of Spain and Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez,» reported Peña on his social media.
This initial meeting between the Paraguayan President and the highest authorities of Spain took place within the framework of a reception hosted by the GSMA, the global organization organizing the World Congress, which brings together 750 mobile phone operators and more than 400 related companies.
Previously, on his first day in Barcelona, President Peña also met with authorities and businessmen from that city, with whom he discussed «Paraguay’s full potential.»
«I had the opportunity to talk to them about the great progress we have made in macroeconomic matters, the stability we have built, and above all, the potential that Paraguay has to receive investors. Several showed interest and asked to have access to more details to see the possibility of sending their representatives and initiating procedures to establish themselves in our country,» said the Head of State.
He also mentioned that among the guests were some businesspersons with capital invested in Paraguay, whose testimony excited other guests.
«Our country attracts the world’s attention because of the enormous potential of its people,» said the President regarding these conversations.
Participants in this meeting included Isak Andic, founder and President of Mango; Mario del Campo, President and CEO of Merchanservis, Services and Outsourcing; José Creuheras, President of Grupo Planeta; Ana Godó, advisor to Grupo Godó and member of the Owning Family; Josep Oliu, President of Banco Sabadell; Jordi Puig, President of the Nautical Club and shareholder of Puig; Marian Puig, President of Isdin and shareholder of Puig; Jordi Ribé, President of Ribé Salat, and Rosa M. Lleal, advisor to A3, CEO of Lleal and Vice President of Expoquimia.
For Monday’s agenda, the President will be the main speaker at the program’s opening session titled «Steering The Digital Economy.»
Paraguay attends the ecumenical meeting with a proposal to host investments to become a telecommunications logistics hub in South America.
The President is accompanied at the event by the First Lady, Leticia Ocampos, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Gustavo Villate, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, and the National Chancellor, Rubén Ramírez.
