Peña reaffirms the government’s commitment to end Paraguay’s «isolation

Asunción, Agencia IP.- President of the Republic Santiago Peña met with Paraguayan business leaders in Florida, USA, where he reiterated his government’s commitment to legislative diplomacy and efforts to make Paraguay a competitive and globally recognized country.

During his speech, Peña highlighted that Paraguay has been working diligently to overcome its isolation and regain its place in the development of Latin America. «The great challenge for Paraguayans is overcoming this isolation, not physical but mental. Our problem is not physical landlockedness; our main problem is mental landlockedness, which prevents us from showcasing our potential to the world,» he indicated.

Peña also emphasized the importance of the relationship with the USA, noting that Paraguay has historically been the USA’s best ally in Latin America. «Paraguay has historically been the best ally the USA has had in Latin America, and we must go out and show the world our Paraguay. The world will not come looking for us in Paraguay if we do not showcase it,» he emphasized.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, including legislative diplomacy and promoting the economy and trade. «We have insisted a lot on going out to showcase, to tell the story of Paraguay, the present of Paraguay, but mainly the future,» he said.

Peña mentioned that his government is working to unite the positions of a region very divided by ideology. «Paraguay has found ideological centrality in stability, the defense of freedoms, and democracy. Paraguay stands out again as a country that has found this centrality, not only geographically but also ideologically, and this implies a great opportunity,» he assured.

The meeting with Paraguayan business leaders in the USA is part of the Paraguayan government’s continuous effort to enhance bilateral relations and make Paraguay a competitive and globally recognized country.

«We are very enthusiastic about the path traveled in these nine months, but we are not satisfied nor close to what we believe can be achieved in the coming years,» he stated.

Peña highlighted Paraguay’s efforts to improve its competitiveness in the global market. «Paraguay is a country with a great capacity to produce food for its region and supply other regions. We have flat, arable land, rivers that allow us to generate clean and renewable energy, and macroeconomic stability that makes us the most stable country in Latin America and the Caribbean,» he emphasized.

Legislative diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations

Peña spoke about the importance of legislative diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. «We are working closely with the US government to improve our countries’ relationships. We have received the visit of the first active senator to Paraguay in recent years. We are working to unite the Paraguayan communities living abroad, especially in Florida, where there is a very important community,» he said.

Another item in his speech was the fight against corruption and the support for legal security in Paraguay. «Corruption is a major challenge we face, but we are working on a national strategy to combat it and improve legal security in our country,» he expressed.

The meeting also focused on promoting confidence and optimism among Paraguayans. «We need to teach Paraguayans that they have a destiny of greatness. We need them to challenge themselves and believe in themselves so that they can invest in their country and make Paraguay an attractive place for investors,» he concluded.
