The Government of Paraguay rejects the «mediation and politicization» of administrative sanctions

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Government, expressed in a statement its «displeasure» over the «mediation and politicization of administrative sanctions» imposed by the United States, which were made public a few days ago by the U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay, Marc Ostfield.

Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez read the statement this Thursday afternoon after summoning Ambassador Ostfield for a meeting. In the statement, the Paraguayan Government «does not pass judgment on using administrative tools that fall within American legislation. However, we do have a position regarding how these administrative measures were communicated» by Ambassador Ostfield.

Due to this «mediation and politicization» of the sanctions, the Paraguayan Government has requested that the United States expedite Ambassador Ostfield’s departure «to prevent the loss of trust in one individual from damaging the historically strong relationship we maintain,» the Foreign Minister stated.

Ramírez reiterated that Paraguay and the United States enjoy an excellent relationship and are strategic allies on regional and global issues related to defense, security, the fight against corruption, trade, and investments.

The Republic’s Presidency released the full statement on its social media channels.
