Taiwan-Paraguay Technological Forum: Expert explores the future of 6G and AI

Asunción, Agencia IP.- As part of the First Taiwan-Paraguay Technological Forum, which began last Monday, the renowned expert in wireless networks and telecommunications, Dr Wanjiun Liao, delivered a keynote lecture on the advancements and challenges of 5G and 6G technologies.

Liao, Executive Vice President of the National Taiwan University, is a global authority in AI for Networks, multimedia communications, vehicular networks, and AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things).

During her presentation, the speaker emphasized how 6G, the successor to the current 5G, promises a revolution in how we connect and use technology. «6G will not only be an improvement in the speed and capacity of current networks but will also open the door to entirely new experiences, integrating artificial intelligence and connected devices more deeply and efficiently,» Liao highlighted.

She also stressed the importance of reducing communication latency, especially in critical applications such as vehicular networks and augmented/virtual reality. Maintaining end-to-end latency, particularly motion-to-photon (MTP) latency, below 15 milliseconds is essential to avoid issues like «cyber-sickness,» which could hinder the adoption of immersive technologies.

Among the innovations presented, Liao highlighted advancements in using artificial intelligence to optimize network traffic, as well as innovative solutions in multimedia communications that allow for more efficient and higher-quality transmission. These technologies, developed in collaboration with companies like Chunghwa Telecom, aim to reduce the size of data needed to transmit high-resolution video, which is crucial for the future expansion of 6G-based services.

Another key aspect of the lecture was the discussion on vehicular networks, an area where 5G has already shown significant advancements, but which 6G and AIoT solutions promise to elevate to a new level. Liao explained how the combination of artificial intelligence with IoT will allow vehicles not only to communicate with each other but also to make real-time decisions, improving safety and efficiency in transportation.

Wanjiun Liao closed her presentation with an optimistic vision of the future, where 6G will enable even closer integration between wireless networks, artificial intelligence, and connected devices.

«6G will not only be an improvement in the speed and capacity of current networks but will also open the door to entirely new experiences, integrating artificial intelligence and connected devices more deeply and efficiently,» Liao highlighted.

She also noted, «because AI is really making some changes to communication, particularly for 6G. Not just to provide the AI application over the 6G, to create replicas of digital tools, it also has a great impact on the design of the whole system,» she concluded.
