Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, held a conversation yesterday with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during which he reaffirmed Paraguay’s intention to integrate into an increasingly competitive world while defending its productive and development model.
«The conversation went quite well, with a commitment to continue moving forward, and if conditions allow, to achieve the much-anticipated free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union,» said the President after the meeting.
He mentioned that during the conversation, he had the opportunity to explain to von der Leyen the history, present, «but mainly the future of Paraguay as a leader in the region.»
The President also clarified that Paraguay will defend its development and productive model in the integration processes being negotiated between both regions.
«We are convinced that Paraguay is a global leader in food production, and of course, we are open to conversations to integrate into an increasingly competitive world,» he said.
He stated that the President highlighted Paraguay’s role in these processes, emphasizing that the world needs what Paraguay is producing.
