Paraguay explores opportunities in semiconductors and Artificial Intelligence with Taiwanese experts

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Ministers of Industry and Commerce (MIC) Javier Giménez and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), Gustavo Villate, welcomed experts from the Institute of Technology of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities in Paraguay in the fields of semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

The meeting also included the participation of the Vice Minister of Rediex, Rodrigo Maluff, Rediex’s Director of Strategic Planning, Ernesto Rojas, and Benjamin Barán, President of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). The delegation from Taiwan was led by Ambassador José Chih-Cheng Han, along with experts Minge Wang and Ray Yang.

During the meeting, the Taiwanese experts highlighted three key aspects for developing the semiconductor industry in Paraguay, such as the country’s access to clean energy, which represents a significant competitive advantage for the tech industry.

Another point emphasized was Paraguay’s strategic location, which provided advantageous access to nearby markets, particularly Brazil, and facilitated regional logistics and commercial expansion.

Lastly, they pointed out the potential for alternative energy production, noting that Paraguay has the opportunity to diversify its tech industry through the production of solar panels, contributing to the growth of renewable energy and strengthening its industrial sector.

They also highlighted the possibility of establishing strategic partnerships to build data centers, taking advantage of Paraguay’s clean energy environment and emerging technological infrastructure. This would allow Paraguay to capitalize on this expanding field and solidify its position in the global tech market.

On this point, the Taiwanese Ambassador commented that although the experts are not businesspeople, they possess deep knowledge of the sector, which is considered strategic in political and geopolitical terms. Work will focus on developing concrete actions to leverage these opportunities.

«We are going to study this thoroughly to see how we can implement concrete actions, whether through investment or cooperation, to fully capitalize on the conditions Paraguay offers, especially in clean energy, water resources, and human talent,» said Chih-Cheng Han.
