IMF report places Paraguay as the fastest-growing country in the region this year

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The report «World Economic Outlook,» published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), ranks Paraguay as the country with the highest growth projections for this year in South America, with a 3.8% increase in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This positions Paraguay with a growth outlook significantly above the South American average of 1.8%.

Following Paraguay, Uruguay has the best growth forecast in the region, at 3.2%, while Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela are projected to see a 3% expansion in their economies. On the other hand, the IMF forecasts that Argentina’s GDP will decrease by -3.5%.

Regarding projections for 2025, the IMF estimates that Paraguay will maintain a growth level similar to this year’s, in a region expected to experience stability, while Argentina is anticipated to undergo a recovery with growth of around 5% of its GDP.

The IMF’s forecast for Paraguay this year aligns with the Central Bank of Paraguay’s optimistic estimates. The bank recently raised its growth expectation to 4% of GDP by the end of 2024.
