Paraguayan Foreign Minister met with a representative of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to strengthen bilateral ties

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, met in Montreal, Canada, with Harriet Matthews, Director General, Africa, the Americas, and Overseas Territories at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), to discuss the bilateral agenda and explore opportunities to deepen relations between the two countries.

The meeting took place during the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of Ukraine’s Peace Formula, which Paraguay was invited to participate in, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, they highlighted shared values, including the defense of democracy, respect for human rights, and strengthening the rule of law, which present opportunities for international cooperation.

The Paraguayan Foreign Minister reaffirmed Paraguay’s principled stance on the situation in Ukraine and discussed Paraguay’s position on the conflict in Gaza. Matthews expressed interest in Paraguay’s recent positions, particularly the planned opening of Paraguay’s Embassy in Jerusalem by the end of this year.

The Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized the significance of this step in strengthening bilateral relations with Israel, underpinned by shared principles.

The UK representative positively acknowledged Paraguay’s economic growth and congratulated the government on Moody’s recent investment-grade rating for Paraguay.
She also praised the efforts of both countries’ embassies and highlighted the business opportunities Paraguay offers, especially due to its sustainable environmental policies.
