Asunción, Agencia IP.- Shipments under the maquila regime reached USD 927.4 million in October, an 8.0% increase compared to the same period in 2023. According to a report by the Central Bank of Paraguay, the sector shows «significant diversification in production and exports.»
Among the main exported products contributing to this increase are stamped sheets and aluminum containers, which grew by 130% compared to last year’s figures.
Wires and cables for auto parts continue to be one of the sector’s most important segments, with an 8.9% growth compared to the previous year.
Other new products exported under the maquila regime that have significantly impacted the sector’s positive results include refrigerated or frozen bovine and pork casings.
Carpets, coverings, and plastic bottles and jars also experienced favorable export variations compared to last year, with 41% and 29% growth rates, respectively.
Biodiesel, men’s clothing, denatured ethyl alcohol, and bar soaps are also newly exported products.
Regarding the leading destinations for products under this regime, Brazil remains the most important market, accounting for 63.3% of exports. Argentina and the Netherlands follow, with 10.6% and 6.1%, respectively.
Under this regime, the United States, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Thailand, and Spain are also key destinations for exports.
