Craft Route and Chaco gastronomy project aspire for the 2024 Tourism Excellence Awards

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) has announced that Paraguay will be represented in the 2024 Tourism Excellence Awards through two finalist projects that showcase the country’s creativity, innovation, and sustainability in tourism and gastronomy.

The Tourism Excellence Awards, established in 2005 by the Excelencias Group, recognize projects that integrate tourism, gastronomy, art, and culture. The awards ceremony takes place at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur), which will be held on January 23 this year.

The first project is the National Craft Route, an initiative spearheaded by the Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA) that highlights the talent of Paraguayan artisans, promotes cultural tourism, and boosts the economy of artisan families.

The second project, Tucos Factory, combines gastronomy with sustainable practices. It promotes wild fruits and involves Indigenous and rural women from four communities in the Boquerón department.

«These nominations reflect the collective efforts of those who work daily for Paraguayan tourism, showcasing the immense value of our culture and creativity to the world. At Senatur, we will continue driving projects that position us as a unique and sustainable destination,» stated Angie Duarte, Paraguayan Minister of Tourism.

Tourism Excellence Awards

Paraguay has been recognized in previous editions of the Tourism Excellence Awards. In 2017, Senatur’s Tourist Lodges project was awarded in the Public Policy and Governance category.

Last year, the Missionary Tour, which preserves the culture and traditions of the Misiones department, and the Gua’a Route, which aims to conserve macaw species in Concepción and offer ecotourism circuits for viewing them in their natural habitat, were honored at the 2023 edition of the awards.
