Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will make an official visit to Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile between February 28th and March 8th, according to a statement from the German presidential office.
The Head of State will attend the inauguration of Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi on March 1st and is scheduled to meet with his counterparts Santiago Peña and Gabriel Boric afterward.
«With his trip, at a time of global turmoil and realignment, the Federal President aims to strengthen and deepen Germany’s partnerships in South America. The bilateral relations with Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile are marked by longstanding partnerships, partly due to the history of German immigration,» the statement reads.
Steinmeier is serving his second consecutive term as President of the Federal Republic of Germany, which runs until 2027.
In November 2022, he received then-President Mario Abdo Benítez, during which the two leaders discussed green hydrogen production projects in Paraguay—such as the initiative by Atome Energy—as well as meat exports and the Bioceanic Road Corridor in the Chaco region.
