Paraguay advances in compliance with IACHR rulings

Asunción, Agencia IP.- On past Wednesday, the First Executive Interinstitutional Meeting of the Interinstitutional Commission for the Compliance with International Rulings (CICSI) was held at the Vice Presidency of the Republic to review pending cases.

Authorities highlighted the government’s progress in complying with rulings, recommendations, and other international commitments regarding human rights.

María Teresa Peralta, General Director of Human Rights at the Vice Presidency and representative of the Vice President of the Republic, emphasized the achievements. «In 2024, two public apology events were held, and cases that concluded favorably were reported, demonstrating a strong commitment to compliance with the rulings,» she stated.

One of the key aspects discussed in the meeting was the role of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), which has prioritized communication and dissemination campaigns through state media. Rafael Escobar Sarubbi, General Director of Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice, praised this effort, stating that «the campaigns carried out in 2024 significantly contributed to locating victims in cases that occurred over 30 years ago, allowing for concrete progress in their follow-up.»

CICSI is responsible for expediting compliance with international human rights rulings and indigenous cases. Its mission is to coordinate interinstitutional efforts to ensure the implementation of Friendly Settlement Agreements and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court) judgments.

During this meeting, the commitments undertaken and the pending cases were reviewed, which will be submitted to the Executive Council—led by the Vice President of the Republic and the Ministers of the Executive Branch—for analysis and follow-up.

With this, Paraguay reaffirms its commitment to human rights and the fulfillment of its international obligations, strengthening communication and transparency in these processes.
