Peña met with Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General, in Montevideo

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, received a visit from the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, during which they reviewed his 10-year tenure.

As part of the official visit the President is making to Uruguay, Peña met with OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro to assess the management he has led over the past 10 years at the organization’s helm, as his term is set to finish in 2025.

They also discussed the future of the organization and the path toward greater integration among the countries of the Americas, according to a statement released by the Presidency of the Republic last Saturday.

In his inaugural speech at the 54th General Assembly in 2024, President Peña highlighted Paraguay’s commitment to the multilateral system and the OAS.

He also emphasized the extensive career of Paraguay’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rubén Ramírez, seeking to succeed Almagro in the regional forum for the 2025-2030 term.
