Asunción, Agencia IP.- The governments of Paraguay and the United States have issued a joint statement announcing that ongoing cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will continue as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Additionally, it was agreed that Paraguay’s National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) would remain part of the Sensitive Investigative Unit (SIU).
The Paraguayan Executive Branch requested dialogue with the United States to guide cooperation with the DEA. On March 5, it was announced that President Santiago Peña spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding this and other matters.
Secretary Rubio congratulated Paraguay on making its first-ever purchase through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, acquiring a radar with a 400 km range for USD 45.7 million.
«Anti-narcotics cooperation between Paraguay and the United States is essential to dismantling organized crime networks and promoting a safer environment for our citizens. We will continue working together to achieve this goal,» representatives from both countries stated.
