Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, expressed his deep sorrow following the news of Pope Francis’s death. He stated that the late Holy Father leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the most vulnerable.
«His life was a testimony of faith, humility, and love for others. He leaves us a legacy of service and commitment to the most vulnerable—values that will continue to guide us. May God receive him in His glory,» the Paraguayan leader shared through his account on X.
In November 2023, three months after assuming the presidency of Paraguay, Santiago Peña had an audience with the Head of the Catholic Church at the Vatican.
The Head of State described the meeting with the Supreme Pontiff as an excellent opportunity to talk with him and convey the affection and love of Paraguay, which constantly prays for him and remembers his 2015 visit as a blessing for all Paraguayans.
On that occasion, Peña highlighted Pope Francis’s spiritual guidance and commitment to humanity, which, he said, «inspires us to build, together with society, a more supportive Paraguay that is sensitive to people’s needs.«
