Asunción, Agencia, IP.- President Santiago Peña visited the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See yesterday, where he signed the book of condolences following the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis.
The handwritten message states that the Pope will be remembered “forever for his immense love for Paraguay and the Paraguayan people. We do not doubt that from heaven he will continue to guide and watch over this country that loves him so dearly,” reported the Office of the President.
The President’s presence at the Vatican’s diplomatic headquarters in Asunción demonstrated the Paraguayan people’s affection and gratitude for the first Latin American Pope, whose voice was always in service of unity, dialogue, and human dignity.
The Government of Paraguay declared five days of official mourning in tribute to his legacy. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all public buildings, military and police institutions, and National Navy vessels.
Public offices will continue operating normally while observing the established mourning period.
