Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, has officially begun his activities in the United States as part of his official visit.
Over the next few days, he will hold high-level meetings with leaders from the banking, business, and economic sectors in order to position Paraguay on the global stage and attract investments that promote employment in the country.
The Head of State began his official visit on Saturday with a private meeting with World Bank President Ajay Banga, who had recently visited Paraguay and met with Peña at the Presidential Palace.
According to government spokesperson Guillermo Grance, the President’s tour in the United States will include cities such as New York and Los Angeles during his stay. Grance made the announcement Monday via videoconference.
In this context, Grance stated that the president’s official visit represents a strategic move by the government to attract investment and project Paraguay’s leadership in international spaces.
Santiago Peña will carry out a wide-ranging political, diplomatic, and economic agenda, meeting with global financial leaders and key figures from the business and banking sectors.
Among the most notable meetings is his appointment with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, «reaffirming Paraguay’s commitment to multilateralism,» Grance emphasized. Peña will also participate in a special UN session.
The agenda also includes a ceremony where Peña received the Gesher Award, an honor recognizing the strong ties between Paraguay, Israel, and the Jewish world. The award, presented by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), was previously given to Spain’s King Felipe VI.
Other planned activities include meetings with business leaders from Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Deerpoint, among others. He will also meet with the Council on Foreign Relations and the Council of the Americas, two of the most influential foreign and regional policy institutions.
«Since taking office, the President has pursued an agenda aimed at positioning Paraguay globally, leveraging its competitive advantages for investment to generate employment in the country,» Grance reiterated.
Santiago Peña’s official visit will continue until Monday, May 5, after which he will return to Asunción, with the return time yet to be confirmed.
