Paraguay to celebrate its day at Expo 2025 Osaka

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay will have a special occasion on May 19, where it will showcase its full potential and rich culture to the world through artistic performances, music, dance, and a display of traditional cuisine as part of Expo Osaka 2025 in Japan.

Under the theme «Ikigai Paraguay: Energy that Connects,» Paraguay aims to project its sustainable energy and its ability to connect cultures, economies, and people. The world expo opened on April 13 and will run until October 13.

Businesspeople from various sectors will travel to Japan to participate in this special day and engage in strategic meetings with Japanese companies.

A robust agenda of commercial activities is planned in different cities across Japan, aimed at strengthening and deepening trade ties between Paraguay and Japan.

José Aguayo, Paraguay’s Deputy Commissioner at Expo Osaka, highlighted the importance of these actions, noting that increased trade activity is expected, with prospects of surpassing previous years’ growth levels.

Aguayo also emphasized the strong daily turnout at the Paraguayan pavilion, stating that the Japanese public shows high interest in Paraguay. «With the concept of ‘Ikigai Paraguay,’ we present the country as a key partner in South America for building commercial ties with Japan. We consider Japan and Taiwan—another friend of Paraguay nation—two gateways to the entire Asian market. By strengthening our relationship with Japan, we are expanding the market for our national products,» he affirmed.

Craftsmanship, science, living culture, and cuisine

The Paraguayan pavilion stands out for its diversity. It features a wide variety of handcrafted pieces, many of which are made by indigenous communities.

A replica of the GuaraniSat-1, Paraguay’s first nanosatellite—developed jointly by Paraguayan engineers, the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), and Paraguay’s Space Agency—is also on display.

On weekends, the pavilion offers free Ñandutí lace-making workshops led by the Ñandutí Weavers Association in Japan. «The Japanese public’s interest in Ñandutí is remarkable. The workshops draw large crowds and have gained coverage in various local and national Japanese media,» added Aguayo.

On Paraguay’s National Day, visitors can enjoy the country’s authentic flavors, with traditional foods like chipa and sopa paraguaya offered for tasting.

The celebration date was carefully chosen as it coincides with Paraguay’s patriotic month and commemorates the anniversary of Japanese immigration to Paraguay, adding even more significance to the event.
