Asunción, Agencia IP.- This Saturday, May 24, Paraguayan sports will witness a historic moment as Las Arpas de Paraguay GAA, the country’s first national Gaelic football team, makes its international debut in an unprecedented match against Cuenca del Plata GAA from Argentina.
The match will take place at Luque Rugby Club from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and admission is free for all spectators. This event marks Las Arpas’s official presentation as a complete team in an international competition, opening a new chapter in Paraguay’s sports scene.
Originally from Ireland, Gaelic football is a field game played on grass with a round ball that combines soccer, basketball, and handball elements. Like soccer, players can score goals worth three points or send the ball over the crossbar between two upright posts to earn one point. At each end of the field stands an H-shaped goalpost.
The event, supported by the Consulate General of Ireland in Paraguay, is designed to offer the Paraguayan public a unique and engaging sports experience and strengthen regional cultural and athletic ties.
Official tournament jerseys will be available for purchase during the event.
Evening celebration: Official After-Party
The historic day will conclude with a festive celebration: the Las Arpas Official After-Party, starting at 8:00 PM in the Madame Eliza Lynch Ballroom at the Gran Hotel del Paraguay in Asunción.
Admission is 250,000 guaraníes, but it is free for those who attended the match by showing the event wristband at the door. The party will bring together players, fans, supporters, and members of the international Gaelic football community for a night of music, connection, and celebration.
Paraguay expands its sports diversity with this event and reaffirms its openness to cultural exchange and international participation.
