Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay reaffirmed last Friday its firm support for Israel’s right to defend its existence in the context of the preemptive operation launched against Iranian military and nuclear targets. Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, called the Paraguayan Foreign Minister to provide information about the operations.
Early Friday morning, Israel launched Operation «Rising Lion,» which involved multiple strikes on nuclear facilities and other military targets in Iran. This preemptive offensive aims to prevent the Iranian regime from developing nuclear weapons.
In this context, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, called Paraguay’s Foreign Minister, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, to provide details about the preemptive action undertaken by Israel, according to the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
«Paraguay expresses its firm support for Israel and its right to defend its existence while also calling for peace in the region,» the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry stated in its report on the phone call.
Paraguay, which in December reopened its Embassy in Jerusalem, is one of Israel’s strongest allies in South America. «We stand firmly with Israel and will continue to do so, no matter the cost,» Paraguayan President Santiago Peña said last Thursday in a speech at the Madrid Forum held in Asunción.
Amid the current offensive, a group of Paraguayan mayors participating in a training course in Israel had to take refuge in bunkers due to the risk of Iranian drones—launched in response to the attack—hitting Israeli territory.
«Freedom is not preserved with words alone. It demands courage, vigilance, and the determination to act when necessary. Every delay of Iran’s nuclear threat, every intercepted Iranian missile, every neutralized drone helps to defend and protect innocent lives—not only in Israel but throughout the region and beyond,» declared Israeli President Isaac Herzog last Friday.
