International context and political challenges foster close cooperation between the EU and Paraguay

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Myriam Ferrán, Director for International Partnerships of the European Union, stated that the international context, political challenges, and ongoing wars are dramatic events that underscore the need for even closer cooperation between the EU and Paraguay.

«That is why we have decided to organize this investment forum together, because we see not only a political cooperation, which is fundamental, but also economic cooperation that allows us to address the major challenges we are facing jointly,» Ferrán said on Tuesday during the opening of the 2025 Investment Forum, held at the Central Bank of Paraguay’s Institute.

She highlighted climate change, the digital transition, the reach of new technologies, and the social context as key areas where concrete cooperation projects can be developed to impact communities positively.

To this end, the European Union has been working on the Global Gateway strategy since 2021. This strategy is based on common goals and joint work with authorities and civil society. In Paraguay’s case, the strategy aims to identify the most relevant issues requiring special attention to focus efforts effectively.

«That’s why we’ll have sessions on renewable energy, climate change, sustainable transportation, and digital transition. These are the key topics of the future on which we want to concentrate,» she stressed.

In this context, she emphasized the importance of establishing a «hand-in-hand» collaboration with the private sector. This aligns precisely with the forum’s central theme: connecting European companies looking to invest in Paraguay with local companies seeking cooperation with European business partners.

«We will have sessions where companies can identify projects needing financing. That’s what we are here for—to see how we can support those financing needs,» she explained.

She concluded by saying: «What we hope to see is a very concrete impact from this forum, with the identification of more tangible projects in which both the European Union and companies from Europe and Paraguay can collaborate.»
