Paraguayan pork industry consolidates growth following the opening of new international markets

Asunción, Agencia IP.- With stable prices and new export destinations, the Paraguayan Pork Producers Association highlights the sector’s growth following the overcoming of a severe crisis, thanks to the opening of markets such as Taiwan and Singapore, as well as coordinated efforts between public institutions and the private sector.

Enzo Mannarini, president of the Paraguayan Pork Producers Association, stated that Paraguay’s pork industry is experiencing a phase of sustained growth after weathering one of the most challenging crises in its recent history. He emphasized the joint work between the public and private sectors to position Paraguayan pork in highly competitive international markets.

He also noted that the impact of this growth extends beyond the economy. The pork industry has become a key component of the local economy and is now starting to have a positive social impact as well, generating jobs, energizing rural communities, and creating new opportunities for thousands of Paraguayan families, said Mannarini.

Founded in 2017 by a group of small and medium producers, the association has strengthened significantly, especially since the start of exports to Taiwan—an event Mannarini described as a turning point for the sector. «We went through a severe crisis caused by the suspension of exports due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. The entry into the Taiwanese market brought us stability and sustained economic growth,» he explained.

This progress has been further bolstered by the recent opening of the Singaporean market, which, according to the industry leader, brings international competitiveness, stable prices, and greater predictability for planning production and investment.

Mannarini also praised the coordinated efforts of various state institutions, including the National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which, along with private companies, have actively supported the sector’s expansion.

He concluded by noting that this teamwork is producing tangible results. «We are currently negotiating with the Philippines and other Asian countries, which further strengthens our presence in the global market,» Mannarini emphasized.
