Asunción, Agencia IP.- In its session last Wednesday, the Chamber of Senators approved the appointment of Gustavo Leite, current senator, as Paraguay’s new ambassador to the United States.
The constitutional agreement was approved with 32 votes in favor, three against, and one abstention.
Leite, a senator from the Honor Colorado Movement of the ANR Party, will fill the diplomatic post left vacant since January 25 of this year, when the Executive Branch issued the dismissal of Juan Carlos Dos Santos.
Leite’s Senate seat will be filled by his substitute, Alfonso Noria Duarte, the former governor of Canindeyú from 2013 to 2018.
Leite requested leave under Article 199 of the National Constitution to assume his new role, after serving two years as a senator.
«I feel committed. I can’t afford to fail. Things may go wrong, yes, but I will never bring shame to Paraguay or you. You can be assured of that,» he stated during the ordinary session.
