Investment projects and air route plans were discussed with the Paraguayan-American Chamber of Commerce

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Executives of the Paraguayan-American Chamber of Commerce met with Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez to discuss investment projects and the possibility of establishing air connections between Paraguay and the United States.

The Paraguayan-American Chamber of Commerce comprises a diverse range of companies that operate in U.S. markets. «We are always open to welcoming American companies or those that work with American products,» said Peter Hansen, the Chamber’s president, in an interview with Radio Nacional del Paraguay.

Paraguay is subject to a minimum 10% tariff rate imposed by the United States, as the trade balance favors the North American country—in other words, Paraguay imports more from the U.S. than it exports.

“Paraguay is coming out relatively unscathed from the new U.S. tariff policy; that was an encouraging message […] The trade balance issue is not a major topic on the U.S. agenda—at least not concerning Paraguay,” he stated.

Investments and direct flights

Government negotiations include discussions with airlines, as part of an initiative to establish direct flight routes to the U.S.. This move would benefit foreign trade and offer new ways to connect Paraguay with the world.

President Hansen also shared that Omega Green, a Brazilian company, is looking to establish operations in Paraguay to produce aviation biofuels, aligning with future energy regulations.

«Part of our day-to-day work is welcoming investors, giving them our perspective on the business climate in Paraguay, and advising them on how to facilitate their investments,» he explained.

Among other activities, the Chamber, in collaboration with the AmCham Foundation, raises funds each year to support scholarship programs for 75 outstanding university students who require improvement in their English skills. «Our goal is to broaden these young people’s horizons so they can apply for master’s opportunities abroad,» Hansen said.
