Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay’s new ambassador to Taiwan, Darío Filártiga, highlighted the growth of meat exports, such as beef—where the Asian country is now the second most important market—and pork, for which Paraguay benefits from preferential tariffs.
Filártiga noted that the country, a historical ally of Paraguay, has now grown in importance as a market for national exports. In addition to beef and pork, efforts are underway to facilitate the export of poultry and other grains, such as rice.
«Taiwan is one of the main buyers of protein-rich foods, and we want to open an important market for our national rice,» said the Ambassador in an interview with Radio Nacional del Paraguay.
In the first half of 2025, more than 25 million kilos of beef were exported to Taiwan, amounting to USD 151 million. Taiwan represents over 80% of pork exports in the sector, which will continue to strengthen with the implementation of a zero tariff that took effect on July 5.
«We know that all our efforts will be aimed at ensuring our people receive the benefits through trade and cooperation,» he stated. Historically, Taiwan has been a partner in areas such as education, public works, and defense and security.
The Ambassador will take up residence in the Asian country during the second half of August, and his diplomatic mission will focus on attracting Taiwanese investments to Paraguay.
