Medical mission «Amistad 25» concludes with over 1,000 free consultations in various specialties

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The medical mission «Amistad 25,» a joint initiative between the Ministry of Public Health and the Government of the United States, provided 1,186 clinical hours of free medical care throughout the country from August 4 to 14, demonstrating the positive results of healthcare cooperation and professional knowledge exchange.

The mission involved 35 U.S. doctors who collaborated with professionals from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of National Defense.

Specialties included dentistry, ophthalmology, and family medicine, carried out through operational deployments in public hospitals nationwide, with the distribution of medicines, eyeglasses, and comprehensive medical guidance offered in different communities, with a special focus on areas with high healthcare demand.

The total of 1,186 clinical hours of medical care across specialties included: 474 dental consultations; 598 optometry consultations, with the same number of prescription glasses provided; 105 family medicine consultations; 78 emergency cases attended; 81 surgical procedures; and 5 trauma surgeries.

In addition, the mission carried out 106 hours of educational activities; repaired 35 medical devices; installed one new dental chair, with an estimated repair value of USD 6,475; and donated a dental chair to the Tarumandy Health Post in Luque.

Notable achievements also included the first endodontic procedure performed at the Primero de Mayo Family Health Unit (USF), under the XI Health Region – Central, as well as a maxillofacial reconstruction, marking important progress for local health services.

The Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Saúl Recalde, stated that all the procedures involve sustainability and knowledge exchange. «These are lives changed, pain relieved, and hopes renewed. All I can say is thank you very much for the equipment provided to the USF, for the surgeries, and the care. I hope Amistad 26 is already on its way,» he emphasized.

The Ministry of Health added that this type of strategic partnership helps bring the healthcare system closer to the population, expand service coverage, and promote a cooperation model that puts people at the center of public policies.
