Paraguay is among the best destinations in South America to visit in 2026, according to Condé Nast Traveler

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The prestigious international magazine included Asunción on its list of the best places to travel in Central and South America next year, highlighting its tourism growth, new gastronomic offerings, and vibrant cultural scene.

The renowned travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler included Paraguay in its prestigious list of the «Best Places to Visit in Central and South America in 2026,» emphasizing the rise of Asunción as a transforming capital with urban projects, innovative restaurants, and top-tier hotels that position it as an emerging destination in the region.

The article, written by journalist Megan Spurrell, notes that Paraguay, historically one of the least-visited countries in South America, has begun to attract an increasing number of international travelers, with a 53% increase in tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2025.

Condé Nast Traveler highlights the revitalization of Asunción’s historic downtown, as well as the development of new urban spaces such as La Cuadrita, a gastronomic and pedestrian complex, and the Perseverancia district, a planned neighborhood that will feature an elevated park of nearly three acres, scheduled to open at the end of 2025.

The publication also underscores the dynamism of contemporary Paraguayan cuisine, driven by young chefs who reinterpret local food in restaurants such as Cocina Clandestina, Pakuri, Óga, and Patio Colonial, the latter housed in a century-old mansion. It also mentions the rise of specialty coffee culture, represented by cafés like Kaffe’i and El Cafetero, and celebrated each year at the Asu Coffee Fest.

In the hotel sector, Condé Nast Traveler notes that Asunción is experiencing a new phase of expansion, with the restoration of classics like the Gran Hotel del Paraguay and the opening of boutique options such as Factoria, La Misión, and the Palmaroga Hotel Asunción, which became the country’s first Hilton.

The magazine also highlights Paraguay’s cultural and identity richness, where Guaraní is an official language spoken by most of the population, a trait that sets it apart from the rest of South America. Institutions such as the Museo del Barro, Fundación Texo, the Museum of Economics, and the cultural center La Chispa are presented as must-stops for those seeking to understand the country’s artistic and social expression.

This recognition affirms Paraguay as a dynamic and promising destination for 2026, blending tradition, modernity, and hospitality to surprise travelers continually.
