Asunción, Agencia IP.- Vori vori, the traditional Paraguayan soup made with small corn-and-cheese dumplings cooked in an aromatic broth of chicken and vegetables, was recently recognized as the best dish in the world in the prestigious Taste Atlas ranking of the 100 Best Dishes in the World.
This list was compiled based on 453,720 valid ratings of 11,781 dishes in the platform’s database, evaluating the quality, authenticity, and popularity of recipes worldwide. Vori vori received a score of 4.64 out of 5, standing out above iconic dishes such as Italy’s Neapolitan pizza and tajarin al tartufo bianco d’Alba.
The recipe follows the traditional method used in many Paraguayan households: the broth is prepared with chicken and a few vegetables, while the dough balls are made solely with corn flour and Paraguayan cheese. Optional ingredients such as carrot, pumpkin, garlic, or bay leaf may be added to enrich the flavor, but the focus always remains on a clean, well-cooked broth and on achieving the proper texture of the dumplings.
The soup is seasoned with salt, pepper, oregano, and parsley, and served hot, often topped with chopped green onion. There are traditional variations, including versions with beef, vori vori blanco (which incorporates milk or extra fat), and rural versions that add pumpkin, squash, carrot, celery, potato, cassava, and corn kernels, depending on availability. Some modern interpretations include egg or butter in the dough, and even chili peppers for a spicy touch, although these are not part of the original tradition.

In 2025, Paraguayan cuisine gained international attention in Japan during a masterclass taught by communicator and entrepreneur Mika Nishijima, where attendees had the opportunity to taste vori vori. The traditional broth not only stood out on Taste Atlas but also brought Paraguayan gastronomy to international stages. Paraguayan cuisine crossed borders through establishments such as «Rincón Guaraní» in London, the first Paraguayan restaurant in the United Kingdom, and «I Love Paraguay» in New York, which became a window into the country’s flavors and culture.
This recognition adds to previous achievements: in 2023, Taste Atlas highlighted vori vori as the best soup in the world, and in 2024, it received a score of 4.8 out of 5, solidifying its position as one of Paraguay’s most representative dishes.
Paraguayan cuisine, with its captivating aromas and flavors, also ranked 83rd in the 100 Best Cuisines in the World in the Taste Atlas World Food Awards, one of the most respected rankings evaluating the quality and authenticity of local food cultures. This achievement highlights Paraguay’s culinary richness and sparks curiosity among those who have yet to try the country’s authentic flavors, turning vori vori into a symbol of national identity and pride that is winning over palates around the world.
