Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguayan scientist Alejandro Román, affiliated with the National Space Agency (AEP), received a significant international academic distinction after being appointed Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London, one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
The appointment was granted by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Engineering) and constitutes a high-level academic recognition, reserved for professionals with distinguished careers who, without holding a permanent employment relationship, actively contribute to research, teaching, academic supervision, scientific publications, and inter-institutional cooperation.
“I am humbled and honored to share that I have been accepted as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London, within the Imperial Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering,” Román said, emphasizing that becoming part of this institution represents «a lifetime achievement and a professional dream come true.»
According to the QS World University Rankings 2025/2026, Imperial College London currently ranks second worldwide and first in the United Kingdom, underscoring the significance of this recognition for both the Paraguayan professional and the country.
Alejandro Román expressed special gratitude for the support of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Washington Yotto Ochieng CBE, Commander of the Order of the British Empire and President of the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN), as well as the faculty and academic team of Imperial College. He noted that the evaluation and appointment process lasted more than two years.
Finally, the researcher affirmed his commitment to actively integrate into the academic community of Imperial College London, to contribute to research, strengthen international collaboration, and explore joint lines of work that generate academic impact and tangible benefits for Paraguay, reinforcing the country’s positioning in the global scientific and technological arena.
