Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan President, Santiago Peña, will meet with executives from GOL Airlines to finalize the official launch of the company’s operations in Paraguay as a preliminary step toward launching direct flights between Asunción and Miami.
The head of the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), Nelson Mendoza, stated that the executives will meet with President Peña to move forward with negotiations on the possibility of operating the air route to the United States, following a meeting with Paraguay’s Ambassador to the United States, Gustavo Leite.
He noted that work is being carried out jointly with GOL to establish the appropriate framework and begin its operations in Paraguay, emphasizing that several other airlines have also expressed interest and have already requested authorization to operate temporary flights. He made these statements to Radio Nacional del Paraguay.
Audit of Silvio Pettirossi Airport
Rolón added that discussions are underway regarding a foreign audit that would enable Silvio Pettirossi International Airport to achieve Category 1 status.
«We are seeking an audit to obtain Category 1, which is like a country brand, a national seal of quality that allows other countries to view us differently and serves as a focus for capital investment,» he said.
The Category 1 status referred to by the head of DINAC is granted by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to airports that meet high safety standards and operate flights to U.S. territory. These standards are established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
He also mentioned that several aspects must be addressed both on the ground and in the air to obtain Category 1 certification, noting that the new northern access to the boarding area, covering nearly 2,500 square meters, is part of this effort.
«We are preparing bidding documents for future upgrades to improve the user experience and bring ourselves in line with current international airport service standards,» concluded the president of DINAC.
