Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) reported that Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas has formally submitted a request to operate new international routes linking Brazil, Paraguay, and the United States, expanding regional air connectivity options.
According to the proposal, the airline plans to launch two triangular operations with Miami as the final destination. The first route would operate Brasília–Miami–Asunción–Miami–Brasília, with a projected start date of June 8, 2026. The second would connect Rio de Janeiro–Miami–Asunción–Miami–Rio de Janeiro beginning August 10, 2026. In total, four weekly frequencies are planned, with specific days and schedules to be announced by the airline later.
These operations are based on existing bilateral agreements among Paraguay, Brazil, and the United States that permit flights under fifth-freedom traffic rights. This mechanism authorizes airlines to transport passengers, cargo, or mail between two foreign countries as part of a service that originates or ends in their home country, expanding travel options and fostering market competition.
DINAC President Nelson Mendoza Rolón stated that the final authorizations are pending completion of administrative procedures in Paraguay and the other countries involved.
«For us at DINAC, believing and doing go hand in hand. Paraguay is ready to meet major challenges,» Mendoza said in the official statement.
These new routes position Asunción as a strategic hub within the regional air corridor, strengthening the country’s international connectivity and offering more travel options for passengers and logistics operators.
