Peña participated in the «Shield of the Americas» summit convened by Donald Trump

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, participated in the «Shield of the Americas» summit, held at Trump National Doral Miami. The meeting brought together leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss regional security, hemispheric cooperation, and joint strategies to confront transnational organized crime.

President Donald Trump convened the event. It was attended by heads of state and representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago.

During the meeting, participants addressed regional cooperation mechanisms to strengthen security across the hemisphere, with particular emphasis on combating drug trafficking, transnational gangs, and other criminal networks operating in the region.

In his remarks, President Trump stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation among countries of the continent to confront organized crime, highlighting the need to coordinate efforts to combat drug cartels and reinforce security actions throughout the hemisphere.

He also announced the launch of a regional coalition to combat transnational criminal organizations, to encourage coordinated efforts among participating countries, and to strengthen security across the region.

For his part, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked regional leaders for their participation and underscored the importance of cooperation among the countries of the hemisphere. In that context, he praised the participating nations’ commitment to working together on initiatives focused on development, security, and regional stability.

The «Shield of the Americas» summit was held as part of a broader dialogue among the governments of the continent, aimed at strengthening regional coordination in response to shared challenges and promoting cooperation in security and development matters.

President Peña’s participation in the summit reaffirmed the Government of Paraguay’s commitment to regional dialogue and cooperation among countries of the hemisphere to address common challenges.
