Women lead the Becal scholarship recipients with 63.1% 

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Women continue to lead the list of scholarship recipients according to data from The National Postgraduate Scholarship Program Abroad «Don Carlos Antonio López» (Becal). At the end of September of this year, 63.1% (1,926) of the 3,051 scholarship recipients were women, of whom 945 were from the countryside.

In these eight years of Becal’s existence, 51% (983) of the female scholarship recipients completed or are still pursuing Master’s degrees; 10% (186) were awarded scholarships to pursue Doctorates; and 1% (11) female professionals for Postdoctorates, reported the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

Likewise, 15% (296) of the female scholarship recipients took Teacher Training regarding complementary scholarships for university students, and 17% (318) of the female scholarship recipients were trained or are still studying languages such as English, German, French, and Portuguese in the country; while 7% (132) carry out Undergraduate Mobility abroad.

37% of the scholarship recipients were trained or are still teaching in an area related to Education; 21% are from the area of Social Sciences, which includes Psychology and Cognitive Science, Economics and Business, Sociology, Law, and Political Sciences; Social and economic geography; Media and Communications, among others. 20% were trained in Humanities, 7% in Engineering and Technology, 6% in Medical Sciences, 6% in Exact and Natural Sciences, and 3% in Agricultural Sciences.

The main countries chosen by the scholarship recipients are Spain, United Kingdom, United States, Chile, France, Australia, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Singapore, Belgium, Finland and New Zealand.
