Paraguay expresses concern over arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Government regretted the arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials requested by the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as well as the comparison established between the democratically elected authorities of Israel and the leaders of the Hamas terrorist group.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing regret and concern over the arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials requested by the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and the comparison made between Israel’s democratically elected authorities and the leaders of the terrorist group Hamas.

The Government of Paraguay strongly rejects this interpretation and considers it incorrect. It argues that Hamas has perpetrated terrorist acts, including the attacks on October 7, and continues to hold hostages and attack the Israeli population.

«We affirm Israel’s right to defend its population. It is essential to distinguish between a state acting in defense of its people and a terrorist organization committing atrocities,» the statement concluded.

It is noteworthy that the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, requested arrest warrants against the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the top leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar.

Khan stated in a public declaration that he has «reasonable grounds» to believe that both are criminally responsible for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during and after the October 7 attacks against Israel and the subsequent Israeli military offensive in Gaza.

The prosecutor also said he has requested arrest warrants against Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, as well as against two other senior Hamas leaders: Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and Ismail Haniya.

Additionally, he noted that the charges against the Hamas leaders include extermination, murder, hostage-taking, rape, and torture, according to reports by the BBC.
