Itaipu hydroelectric receives the Guinness World Record for the highest cumulative energy production in the world

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The binational Itaipu hydroelectric plant received the Guinness World Records recognition on Friday for the highest cumulative energy production in the world over its 40 years of operation.

Natalia Ramírez, the official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, presented the international organization’s official recognition to Itaipu’s Paraguayan and Brazilian directors. She noted that the award was given after thoroughly analyzing the plant’s production levels since it began operations.

«We verified the 40 years of operation of this hydroelectric plant. We conducted a final validation with experts from the Paraguayan Center of Engineers, officially concluding, as of October 30, with 3,038 million MWh of generated energy,» stated the Guinness World Records representative.

«We are the largest hydroelectric power generation plant in the world,» said Justo Zacarías, the Paraguayan director of Itaipu, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the dedication of Itaipu’s workforce over 50 years.

«This accomplishment belongs to the thousands of Paraguayan and Brazilian workers who made it possible for us to be here today receiving this recognition,» he added.

Enio Verri, the Brazilian director of Itaipu, said, «This is the result of 50 years of hard work and dedication. This plaque symbolizes the commitment of the workers who built this project, bringing development to both countries.»
