Paraguay plans to strengthen its trade relationship with Southeast Asia

Asunción, Agencia IP.- To boost trade relations between Paraguay and Southeast Asia, the president of the MACC Mercosur-Asean Chamber of Commerce (Paraguay), Bruno Jaen-Bohorques, highlighted the work of the Rediex Vice Ministry and the importance of these growing markets.

Paraguay aims to establish itself as a strategic partner of Southeast Asia, expanding its presence in key markets and attracting investments that will drive the country’s economic development, further solidifying Paraguay’s position in international trade.

Jaen-Bohorques, president of the MACC Mercosur-Asean, emphasized the ongoing support from the Rediex Vice Ministry in trade missions, including a recent visit to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The primary focus is to attract investments to Paraguay and promote Paraguayan products in the Southeast Asian market, which, according to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, is expected to grow significantly in terms of middle-class expansion and food consumption.

The MACC president highlighted the region’s vast potential, noting that it is the area of the world with the highest projected growth according to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). «It’s a region that will generate more middle class and have a high demand for food—exactly what Paraguay produces,» he added.

Regarding opportunities for Paraguay, he mentioned that raw materials such as meat, soybeans, dairy, and leather are in increasing demand in these countries due to Westernizing consumption habits. He also pointed out that Paraguay could attract technology investments from Asian companies looking to enter the Mercosur market.

«If we can open up markets like Malaysia or Indonesia, which have hundreds of millions of consumers, we could see exponential growth in exports, just as we saw with Paraguayan beef in Taiwan,» he stated.
