Asunción, Agencia IP.- In its latest update, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs has included Paraguay on its list of safe countries to travel to, under the category of «Level 1: Exercise normal safety precautions.»
Government officials welcomed the announcement. Acting President Pedro Alliana stated, «This recognition reflects the serious work we have been doing—through our institutions, our security forces, and the daily commitment of our people.»
Tourism Minister Angie Duarte described the news as excellent for Paraguay, crediting the efforts of President Santiago Peña and all those working to ensure safety and hospitality throughout the country.
The U.S. government advises its citizens to «exercise normal safety precautions» when traveling to Paraguay. However, it notes higher crime risks in certain areas: the departments of Alto Paraná, Amambay, Canindeyú, Concepción, and San Pedro.
Due to these risks, U.S. government officials must obtain special authorization to travel to those regions, the report adds.
The U.S. Department of State uses a four-level travel advisory system. Paraguay’s full designation is: «Level 1: Exercise normal safety precautions.»
