Government of Japan to donate high-end laboratory equipment worth US$ 2.4 million to Senacsa

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Government of Japan will provide a non-reimbursable financial cooperation package consisting of high-end laboratory equipment to Paraguay’s National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa), valued at US$ 2.4 million, as part of the «2025 Economic and Social Development Program.»

This donation includes state-of-the-art equipment, such as a liquid chromatograph and a mass spectrometer, among others, which will enhance Senacsa’s capacity to continue ensuring the quality and safety of Paraguayan livestock products, benefiting public health and expanding opportunities for access to new international markets.

This cooperation is a direct result of President Santiago Peña’s official visit to Japan. It reflects the ongoing strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

The formal cooperation signing ceremony was attended by Senacsa President José Carlos Martin, Japanese Ambassador Katsumi Itagaki, and Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, who signed the Diplomatic Notes to formalize the technology transfer.

In his remarks, the Foreign Minister stated that Paraguay’s recent recognition as a partner country by Japan confirms the maturity and strength of the bilateral relationship, which has been built on principles of respect, cooperation, and a shared vision for development.

«Japan’s cooperation has been fundamental to our development process through high-impact projects in key areas,» he emphasized.

The implementation plan includes the installation of the equipment in the Residue Testing Laboratory of the General Directorate of Laboratories (DIGELAB), the development of an inspection plan, the acquisition of reagents, the establishment of analytical methods, and the execution of inspections on meat and other animal-origin products in the country.
