Asunción, Agencia IP.- After 16 years, the Paraguayan National Soccer Team has once again qualified for a World Cup and will be present at the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
At the Defensores del Chaco stadium, Paraguay sealed its qualification last Thursday night for the FIFA World Cup, to be held in 2026 in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Although there were no goals in the match, the draw was enough for the team coached by Gustavo Alfaro to secure its ticket to the continental event.
The Guaraní squad will return to the World Cup after a 16-year absence.
Paraguay’s next match will be against Peru in Lima on Tuesday, September 9, at 8:30 p.m. at the National Stadium, as part of the final round of the South American Qualifiers.
«Since 2010, we had to watch from the outside three times, we had to chew on frustration, but we never stopped trying. We hit the post so many times that eventually one had to go in. The coach said it. Because in every corner of this land, hope in the Albirroja was always alive!» highlighted the Paraguayan Football Association (APF).
«Sixteen years had to pass since our last qualification, 16 years without hearing our anthem at a World Cup. Thank you, Albirroja! Today, the Albirroja is back. Back with soul, heart, and all the Guaraní grit. This is a dream come true for all Paraguayans!» said the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña.
