Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Rolando De Barros Barreto, officially received the Minister of the Environment of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Dr. Chi-Ming Peng, in a high-level meeting that strengthens the progress made during the recent official mission to Taipei, marking a new stage of bilateral environmental cooperation.

During the meeting, both authorities reaffirmed their commitment to a strategic partnership grounded in innovation, environmental diplomacy, and inter-institutional collaboration.

They also reviewed the 12 points of Paraguay–Taiwan cooperation, structured around four priority areas: climate governance, carbon markets, environmental management, and circular economy.

The meeting enabled the update and reinforcement of the joint roadmap for 2025–2026, defining key actions such as the launch of the National Digital Registry of Carbon Credits, a direct result of Minister De Barros’s efforts during his official visit to Taiwan.

Additional actions include pilot projects for reducing emissions, restoring forests, and implementing sustainable ecosystem management.

They also discussed technical cooperation on waste, plastics, chemicals, and wastewater; the exchange of experts, officials, and young professionals in environmental and climate matters; and the development of initiatives in innovation, circular economy, and green technologies.

Minister Rolando De Barros Barreto emphasized that Paraguay and Taiwan are moving toward a modern, results-oriented cooperation model aimed at improving the well-being of both nations. This alliance, he added, demonstrates that environmental diplomacy is a solid bridge for sustainable development and institutional strengthening.

The visit of Minister Peng represents a decisive step toward deepening joint work between both countries, consolidating a highly strategic relationship for Paraguay in terms of sustainability, climate action, and the transition toward a green economy.
