Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay’s Ambassador to the United States, Gustavo Leite, revealed that Gol Linhas Aéreas is interested in operating direct flights between Asunción and Miami, and stated that the resumption of this air route is now almost a certainty.
Leite met with executives of the Brazilian airline and informed President Santiago Peña about the negotiations. According to a post on social media, the airline’s executives are expected to meet with him in Asunción next week to finalize the details, he reported on his X account.
The airline plans to begin operations as soon as possible, driven by the high demand expected from the FIFA World Cup. With this move, Paraguay would resume direct flights to the Florida city, following the route’s cancellation in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) certified that Silvio Pettirossi International Airport can once again operate with airlines offering direct flights to destinations in the United States. This certification paves the way for implementing the latest recommendations from the U.S. aviation authority to resume direct flights between the two countries.
