Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Directorate of Migration reported the entry into the country of 16 migrants, all adults, on temporary stay, under the Memorandum of Understanding in force between Paraguay and the United States of America.
According to the official statement, each case was evaluated individually by the migration authority, verifying compliance with legal entry requirements and the absence of criminal records in their countries of origin, the United States, and other nations where they previously resided. This process was carried out through information exchange mechanisms with international security agencies and foreign immigration authorities.
The institution indicated that the stay of these individuals in Paraguay will be temporary and regulated, with the aim of facilitating their safe return to their countries of origin. In this process, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will provide support, offering initial assistance, support during the transitional stay, and assisted voluntary return.
The National Directorate of Migration also reiterated that, in accordance with Article 86 of Law No. 6984/2022, the personal data of the migrants involved must be treated with strict confidentiality. Therefore, no details that could identify them will be disclosed to safeguard their rights and the humanitarian nature of the agreement.
Finally, the National Directorate of Migration confirmed that the procedure is being carried out under strict institutional controls and in compliance with current regulations, with the aim of guaranteeing migration security, honoring the country’s international commitments, and promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration.
