Asunción, Agencia IP.- The digitalization process of mandatory processes and documents provides increased security in data usage. «It contributes to greater efficiency in both public and private sectors,» stated the Minister of Information Technology and Communication (MITIC), Gustavo Villate.
In an interview with Paraguay TV, the Minister highlighted the ongoing digitalization of processes in Paraguay, emphasizing its enhanced security and data traceability in alignment with the current work on the personal data protection law.
«The digital landscape is much more secure, and we need to continue working on that,» the Minister asserted, providing concrete examples of how digitally managed data and processes contribute to greater traceability.
«Whether in public or private institutions, when one submits a photocopy of an ID document, there is no guarantee of knowing whose hands it passes through. In the case of technology, we have a way to identify the traceability of who accessed that document,» he explained.
The Minister emphasized that through the recently introduced Portal Paraguay, citizens can digitally access their ID cards, driver’s licenses, and vehicle registrations, valid for any procedure. He noted that through this platform, certainty about the validity of these documents can be ensured, whether in public or private sector transactions.
Regarding handling public resources, such as toll collection on highways, the Minister stated that cash is not traceable, and there is no way to have a precise accounting for that bill. However, with the use of cards and QR code payments, already implemented at some toll booths, traceability of money is achieved.
Linked to this, he mentioned that with the ongoing implementation of electronic toll collection, it will be possible to identify which vehicles pass through toll booths, contributing to public safety.
Finally, he cited the case of immigration controls, which already include digital pre-registration for individuals seeking entry into the country. «This pre-registration for migratory movement already serves to determine if the person seeking entry has any restrictions,» he pointed out.
The Government’s digital implementation primarily focuses on health, education, and security. In the health sector, the expansion of the Hospital Information System (HIS), facilitating access to patients’ medical histories and managing available medications, is progressing. In education, efforts aim to provide connectivity to institutions for accessing many educational resources.
