Historical: Paraguay won its first medal in the Pan-American Games

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Alejandra Alonso and Nicole Martínez earned Paraguay’s first medal in the games that are taking place in Santiago de Chile.

Alonso and Martínez earned the bronze medal in swimming during the A final in female rudderless oars with a time of 7 minutes, 21 seconds, and 19 hundredths.

The North Americans Hannah Paynter and Isabela Darvin won the gold for 7 minutes, 15 seconds, and 85 hundredths. The silver was won by the Canadians Abigail Marie Dent and Olivia Priscila McMurray at the time of 7 minutes, 20 seconds, and 64 hundredths.

The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, celebrated the bronze in his X social media.

“Paraguay climb to the podium of the Pan-Americans with USA and Canada! My congratulations to @martineznicole and @ale_alonso1 of the women’s doubles rowing team for the bronze medal”, wrote the Head of State.

Finally, he highlighted that “Paraguayans have all the potential to stand out in the continent and the world.”
