Mercosur’s Permanent Representatives met in Montevideo to advance and deepen the regional integration process

Asunción, Agencia IP.- With the participation of representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia, the Mercosur Permanent Representatives Commission (CRPM) held a meeting this week in Montevideo, Uruguay, to continue advancing and deepening the regional integration process under Paraguay’s Pro Tempore Presidency. This was the CCLXVII Meeting of the Commission and the second so far this year, during which the topics discussed in the working groups were followed up.

At the end of the session, Ambassador Didier Olmedo reported on the meeting of the Common Market Group (GMC), scheduled for April 9 in Asunción, Paraguay, as well as other tentative meeting dates within the current Pro Tempore Presidency framework.

The agenda began with the presentation of the quarterly performance report of the investment portfolio made by the Financial Fund for the Development of the La Plata Basin (FONPLATA), the bank responsible for the fiduciary administration of the Structural Convergence Fund of Mercosur (FOCEM).

Then, the coordinators of the Working Groups provided their respective reports on the various topics addressed in the Permanent Representatives Commission. Specifically, progress on Communication Policy, Agreements, Mercosur Platform for Training and Citizenship, and the Ad Hoc Group responsible for the normative and procedural aspects of FOCEM.

Mission results

On the other hand, the director of the Mercosur Secretariat, Hugo Saguier Caballero, reported on administrative matters and shared with the CRPM the results of the mission he carried out in Argentina, during which he participated in the assumption of the new executive secretary of the Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights of Mercosur (IPPDH).

The session was chaired by the Permanent Representative of Paraguay to MERCOSUR and ALADI, Ambassador Didier Olmedo, and attended by the permanent representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia, Ambassadors Alan Beraud, Antonio Simões, and Enrique Ribeiro, as well as Minister Counselor Jenny Encinas.
