Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Minister of the Environment, Rolando de Barros, highlighted that the objective is to show the best environmental practices promoted by Paraguay to 190 leaders from all over the world, who will gather at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The 2023 UN Climate Change Conference will convene from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the Minister, the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, will be present on December 2, participating in the high-level meeting.
Paraguay aims to be a protagonist for the actions it has been promoting during the last few years, benefiting the environment, and, in that context, the idea is to socialize with 190 world leaders those good environmental practices that the country is driving.
“We want to show concrete actions. Recently, the Credit Carbon Law was approved, an innovative Law that will generate income and financing for the country, aiming for the conservation and social, economic, productive and integral development,” he claimed.
In the same line, he affirmed that Paraguay is accomplishing its commitment regarding the emission of greenhouse gases, reflected in the fourth report issued to the competent organism.
“We are one of the countries with fewer emissions and less environmental damage, as well as the lower impact on the environment thanks to the good practices that we are using in the agricultural sector and other sectors; we are managing it based on sustainability criteria,” he indicated.
De Barros mentioned that all these issues were discussed with the President during their meeting on Monday in Mburuvicha Róga.
Regarding Paraguayan participation, he admitted that there are many expectations, keeping in mind all the advantages the country has supported by sectors experiencing sustainable growth, such as livestock, and with great projections in others, such as the forestry sector.
The Government is making significant efforts to implement adaptation plans. We have an infrastructure deficit, especially relating to water and sanitation. The idea is to reach a greater coverage, assured the head of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (Mades, by its acronym in Spanish).
“All the actions that we are taking as Government, and as the Ministry of Environment, will be based on improving life’s quality to the citizens, an integral, social, economic and environmental development. We hope to attract investments for the country within the sustainability line,” he finally stated.
