Paraguay and European Union sign an agreement to finance projects against violence towards women and girls

Asunción, Agencia IP.- In the International Women’s Day framework, the Paraguayan Government and the European Union signed a financing agreement to implement the program «Violence against Women and Girls in Paraguay: Improving Prevention and Care Services.»

The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the presence of Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, Minister of Women Cinthia Figueredo, the Ambassador of the European Union Javier García, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain Carmen Castiella Ruiz de Velazco, among other authorities.

The project, which will last four years, is funded by donations from the European Union, amounting to 4 million euros, and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, AECID, with 1.2 million euros.

Strengthening cooperation mechanisms

The program aims to strengthen cooperation mechanisms between institutions involved in the violence route, raise awareness in society about the inequalities and risks faced by women and girls, increase the availability of quality information, and enhance the capacities of civil society organizations acting within the framework of the issue.

Likewise, it aims to increase the participation of public institutions, the private sector, and the general citizenry in addressing and eradicating violence against women and girls.

The goal is to improve the capacities of the Ministry of Women and other vital institutions and enhance the effectiveness of services for victims of violence in the Central/Metropolitan Area of Asunción and Alto Paraná departments, where the highest number of cases are reported according to available data.
